FINALS WEEEEEEK!

FINAL WEEK…..

…….

……..

……

Yeah that is exactly how I feel.

We have to keep on going, I have recently picked up a injury while I was moving furniture so I haven’t been able to do much.

AND I know that I have to keep on working and keep on getting better, even though there is a lack of motivation.

Another reason why i haven’t been able to go and workout is the fact that is the last week of school and I have a couple of finals as well as presentations do prepare for and its just really tiring and frustrating.

This is what my week is looking like so far including homework, finals, presentations and workout routines.

MONDAY – LAST YOGA SESSION/  KNEE REHAB/ STUDY FOR PSYCHOLOGY FINAL

TUESDAY- TAKE PSYCH final/ CLEAN APARTMENT / PREP FOR PRESENTATION/

WEDNESDAY- PRESENTATION/ TRY and get a workout in/ STUDY FOR ASTRONOMY FINAL

THURSDAY- LAST FINAL AT LC/ GOING HOME

BLOOOAATTEEDDD

“I feel sooo fat!” “Arrghh why did I eat that piece of cake and that all of those tamales” “I think just gained like 10 lbs from thanksgiving dinner”..

I’m pretty sure you all have said something along those lines or felt like you are about to explode after you overeat.

Well I have definitely been through it a couple of times and it’s okay to enjoy the holidays and enjoy all of those delicious desserts and sugary foods.

IT HAPPENS! IT’S OKAY!

Well I recently experienced it two weekends ago for easter and well lets just say that my sister’s chocolate was all gone and no one know how…

I weighed myself the next day and I was 6 pounds over my regular weight…. However, like I said I wasn’t worried since I have been through it a couple of times.

IT HAPPENS! IT’S OKAY!

No, I do not go into crazy diets or nothing in particular. It’s pretty simple.

DRINK WATER!

Yes drink water, it helps you stay hydrated and helps you digest all of the toxins you have taken in last night or throughout the weekend.

This is how I start my day the Monday after the holidays…

I start my dad I normally do, drink a cup of coffee and then have a few fruits and either a bowl of oats or something with some carbs.

AND DRINK AT LEAST 3-4 CUPS OF  WATER BEFORE LUNCH

For lunch I tried to get more veggies in such as cauliflower, broccoli, carrots with some sort of dip, some Greek yogurt and bananas or an apple with peanut butter.

AND DRINK WATER! AT LEAST 4 CUPS BEFORE DINNER.

Dinner is more protein and carbs based. I eat a chicken breast or any sort of meat with some brown rice and veggies or a salad.

AND DRINK WATER! MY GOAL FOR EVERYDAY IS TO DRINK 12-15 CUPS OF WATER.

PT. 3

Today I will introduce you guys to one of my good friends,  and old teammate, Max Wootten. Max is from Saint Charles Missouri, and we  go way back. We only played two years of club soccer together at Saint Louis Scott Gallagher  back in 2016 and 2017. Max is great a player that can play any position on the field and does a good job at it. However,  max is more than just a soccer player. Max is currently a sophomore at one of the top D2 schools in athletics as well as academically, The University of Missouri in Saint Louis, where he plays for the men’s soccer program which the compete in the GLVC.

How long have you been playing soccer? And what is one of your favorite memories?

I’ve been playing soccer for 17 years now, I started back when I was only 3 years old for the best club in the U.S. Saint Louis Scott Gallagher. My favorite memory is back in the summer of 2016 where we won state cup for Saint Louis Scott Gallagher, with Oz lol”.

What is one of you favorite thing about college soccer, rather than club or high school? What is your favorite thing about the institution you are at now?

all of max's pics come from UMSl media

“ favorite about college soccer is that, back in high school and club soccer some of the players were just playing for fun and that was frustrating. However,  in college is much different, everyone wants to compete and earn a spot in the starting eleven. I really like UMSL (University of Missouri in Saint Louis), the location where the school is at and all the friends I’ve made here”.

Is it hard being a student athlete at UMSL? Why?

“I would definitely say yes. You have to learn to balance school, athletics, and work which can be challenging. Although most schools provide good amount of support with student athletes and professors at UMSL are very understanding”.

What is one thing you wish it was different? (regarding being a Student Athlete).

“ I think that allot of the NCAA’s rules are irrational and can end up hurting plenty of people. I think that if companies want to endorse an athlete or pay him for advertising, then athletes should be able to take the money. Not all athletes have time to get a job or parents who are financially stable to be able to support their kid’s expenses.

What is some advice you would give an incoming student athlete coming to your university?

“ Introduce yourself to your professors so that you are on their good side, go to class, and focus on your first semester grades, so that you opt out of the mandatory study hall”.

Any comments?

“ LGB!”

Recovery

One of the most important thing for all athletes to do if not the most important thing is recovery, however is one of the things that athletes hate to do.

Yes, if you’re an athlete you  probably have been guilty of not stretching, or cooling down, or icing, or rolling out after practices or games.

I say that because I’m guilty of it myself, even though is so important.

Though I’ve notice that as i have been getting older, I’ve earned to do a better job with it. Maybe I don’t do it every day, which I probably should, but I do it most of the time.

I Usually do it after games and the two or three practices after the game since im probably sore or something is bothering me.

My personal recovery sessions consist of…

Post-practice Recovery

  • Jog across the field there and back 2x
  • Use the 18-yard box to do the movements
  • Open the gate
  • Close the gate
  • Hamstring reach
  • Quad stretch
  • Across the body knee hugs
  • Jog one more time across the field

Day after game recovery

  • 10 min jog
  • Stretch for legs for 5-10 mins
  • Roll for 5-10 mins
  • KB swings 3×8 (40lbs)
  • DB bench press (50’s lbs)
  • Banded eccentric pull up’s 3×6
  • Plank 3x30sec
  • Slam ball 3×8
  • Bicycle Crunch 3×20
  • Shoulder taps 3×20
  • Stretch 5 min.

I also do yoga every Monday and Friday nights, which helps with injury prevention and recommend that if you’re an athlete to start doing yoga and be more proactive with your recovery.

Most importantly: Hydration!!! Drink plenty of liquids after games and practices.

Pt 2.

Today I will present one of my future teammate’s,  experience as a college athlete in America, Jacob Harvey.  Mr. Harvey is a Freshman at Briar Cliff University, where he plays soccer and is majoring in mass communications.

Briar Cliff University is part of the NAIA and competes in the GPAC one of the strongest conferences in NAIA.

How long have you been playing soccer? & what is one of you favorite soccer memories?

“I Started playing soccer 15 years ago & one of my favorite memories from when I was younger was, watching a game between England vs. Hungary with my dad at Old-Trafford. England won 3-1.”

What is your favorite things about soccer? & favorite thing about college in America?

One of me favorite thing about soccer is that nothing else matters when i’m on the pitch. My favorite part about college in America is having the freedom to do as I pleases without telling my parents or anyone in particular.

What is one thing that you don’t like and one thing that you wish it was different?

I miss my friends and family who are far away, pling soccer and just spending times with them. One thing that I wish it was different about college is that most of the time I’m “broke” and can’t drive when I want to.

Is it hard being a Student Athlete in college?

Yes, I believe that is really hard being a college athlete especially if you don’t have the organization skills and time management skills. As a student at Briar Cliff I have to be able to manage your time wisely as you have to go to class, practice, work, and study hours that are mandatory.

What is something you would tell an incoming Student Athlete?

Depending on your sport and the season that they play in, but be ready for pre-season, be sure to do lots of teaching on your own, study for your test, don’t wait for to do your homework last minute, and work during breaks because you will be broke at some point.

Part 1

Is it hard being a college student athlete?

I will do a series, where I ask a variety of questions to some of my friends who happened to play at all different levels of college soccer ranging from D1, D2, D3, and NAIA and find out if being a Student-Athlete is difficult. This Part 1 is me giving my opinion.

One of the most famous questions asked as a high school student athlete, haha well the answer is yes and no.

It all honetsly depends on who you are as a student and how organize you can be.

I personally think that most of the time is fairly simple. Though I go to a community college, which most people would say that classes aren’t as challenging and I cant argue, because I’m getting by just fine and I have never attended any other university or college apart from Lewis and Clark community college.

I would like to argue that even though I’m doing just fine, that there is others just within my soccer team who are struggling an like I said, it’s just at a junior college. Now imagine those who are at a D1 such as Stanford, Yale, Harvard and all of those IVY League schools or those at the top D2, NAIA, and D3.

My final answer is that it all depends on the type of Student-Athlete you are and what is more important to you, sports or school.
